If you have kids, chances are you’ve spent plenty of time at a Dallas playground. But did you know that Dallas Park & Recreation maintains approximately 220 playgrounds across the city?
Keeping that many playgrounds safe, welcoming and ready for families requires ongoing maintenance—and major investment when equipment reaches the end of its life.
🛝 New and Renovated Playgrounds Are Coming
The City of Dallas is using funding from its 2017 and 2024 Bond Programs to replace and renovate aging playgrounds throughout the city’s park system.
The 2024 Bond Program alone includes approximately 50 playground projects, including new, replacement or renovated playgrounds.
Funding from the 2017 Bond Program is also supporting playground replacements planned for:
- Bent Tree Park
- Frankford Park
And the work doesn’t stop with the playgrounds already identified.
Dallas Park & Recreation is continuing to evaluate other playgrounds throughout the city that may need improvements while looking for additional funding opportunities.
🌳 Why Playground Investment Matters
A playground might seem like a simple amenity, but for families, it’s much more than that.
Playgrounds give kids a place to:
🛝 Run, climb and play
🏃 Get active outdoors
🤝 Practice social skills and play with other children
🌳 Spend time outside with their families
🏘️ Connect with other kids and families in their neighborhood
For many Dallas families, a nearby playground is one of the easiest—and completely free—ways to get outside together.
💚 More Playgrounds, More Opportunities for Families
With approximately 220 playgrounds across Dallas, keeping the city’s parks equipped and welcoming is a big job.
The ongoing bond-funded projects, along with future funding efforts, are an important step toward creating a more consistent cycle for replacing aging playground equipment.
And that’s good news for Dallas families.
Because these aren’t simply pieces of playground equipment—they’re places where kids grow, families make memories and neighborhoods come together.
WeekendSprout will continue sharing updates on new and renovated Dallas playgrounds as projects move forward. 🛝🌳
